Summer House Tour and 10 Easy Decorating Ideas

Summer House Tour and 10 Easy Decorating Ideas

I know I say this every year…

…but doesn’t it seem like we were just opening Christmas presents?

I’m pretty sure if I looked hard enough, I’d discover a few ornaments tucked away in a piece of milk glass.

But winter is gone.

Spring somehow showed up for a minute with some flowers.

And now?

It’s summer.  Time for sunshine and lazy days and sweet tea and green grass and fresh cut hay….

…and a summer house tour and 10 easy decorating tips along the way.Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning.

1. Have you ever painted ladybugs and stripes to your toes?  What if you were going to the beach?  Too much?

2. It’s a gloomy day here.  I think I’m binge watching the new Anne of Green Gables.  Has anyone else seen it?

3.  I found the cutest earrings at Cracker Barrel.   I know?  Apparently, accessories with your pancakes is a thing.

4.  I have the cutest project I’m working on this summer that involves traveling the country and photographing houses.  I can’t wait to tell you more about it.

5.  I just found a new program for my computer that’s FREE and life changing.  Like the kind of life changing that makes you happy to be alive.  It’s called Grammarly and it just told me that I spelled apparently wrong and added a comma all at the same time.  If you don’t speak grammar or you’re like me and didn’t pay attention in second grade when they rolled out the punctuation….

….this is the solution for you. 🙂Continue reading

Before and After Loft Workspace With National Painting Week

Before and After Loft Workspace With National Painting Week

I have been waiting for 1,900,800 seconds to show you this before and after I worked on in conjunction with Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week.

That’s 31,680 minutes.

Or 528 hours.

Or a really, really, really long time.

It all started with a request.  We have a brand new cancer center going up in our town. My sister is a local artist and she was asked to create an mixed-media art installation with a group of cancer survivors.  It’s a giant tree with leaf after leaf after leaf created from the pages of each of the survivor’s journals.

Words transformed into art transformed into inspiration…

….with hope written in every line.Continue reading

Everyone Needs a Twirly Whirly Skirt

Everyone Needs a Twirly Whirly Skirt

Yesterday was the beginning of a new era.

The twins graduated from eighth grade.

I sat in the stands and watched as the principal called their names and they walked across the stage with smiles that lit up a room…

…and my heart in their hands.

When did this happen?

Wasn’t I just sitting at a tea party with bears and dolls and a pink striped elephant with a giant opinion?

Wasn’t I clutching their hands at the door to their kindergarten room?

Wasn’t I just bandaging scraped knees and telling people not to draw on the walls with sharpies and painting tiny toe nails that giggled?

And then?

I blinked.Continue reading

Best Tip for Cleaning Outdoor Cushions

Best Tip for Cleaning Outdoor Cushions

See that window with the plantation shutters in the top left-hand corner of this photo?

That’s where I stood all winter.

Looking back at the meadow.

Looking back at the snow.

Looking back at the wind and the weather and the rain and the sleet and the toll winter can take on a porch.

And then one day….

….I saw this.

(total aside:  On second thought–maybe you shouldn’t click.  I’m not sure if you will still want to be friends.)Continue reading

Random thoughts on a Saturday morning:

1.  I snapped this photo this morning with my cell phone when I took Buddy out to take care of his business.

2.  Yes.  The sky really is that blue.  I know, right?

3.  Yes.  We need to mow our lawn.  It looks like something from Little House on the Prairie.  Emphasis on the prairie.

4.  People always ask me why we have those big trees in front of the house.  They are there to prevent everyone and their dog (no offense to you sweet Buddy) from looking into the windows when they drive down the road.

5.  There is nowhere on the planet I would rather be at this exact moment than standing in front of the farmhouse in yoga pants and a messy bun holding a cup of coffee listening to the crickets and feeling the sunshine on my face and watching my dog run.

Nowhere.

Except maybe a baseball game.

Good thing that’s where I’m heading. 🙂Continue reading

Don’t Wear White After Labor Day and Other Life Lessons

Don’t Wear White After Labor Day and Other Life Lessons

They say that April showers bring May flowers.

After several near-flash floods and gray skies and weeks of frizzy hair and 17 rained out baseball games….

….meet my April.

I went out to the garden yesterday and clipped dozens of flowers and arranged them in a yard sale soup tureen and put them in the middle of the family room and wished myself a happy Mother’s Day.

And now?

I want to celebrate with you.

I want to send you flowers and wish you a Happy Mother’s Day and entertain you with a little story…..

….all about kids and the mothers who learn from them. 🙂Continue reading
